Minutes of the Meeting
Members Present: Susan Adler, Rev. Paul Bliss, Joan Crawley, Madeline Ernest, Bill Finelli, Nancy Pontes, Sue Robbio, Rick Ryan, Sister Marietta Walsh and Janice Zeichner.
DEA Staff Present: Larry Grimaldi.
1. Call to Order:
The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:11 am.
2. Approval of Previous Meeting’s Minutes
Supplant Director Powell’s name with Director Taylor’s name. Motion to approve the minutes was made by Susan, seconded by Bill.
3. Treasurer’s Report (assumed)
Balance on hand is $109.59
4. Meeting with Governor Chafee & Staff
Discussion focused upon a review of our informative meeting with the governor & his staff. Emphasis was placed upon the merger of DEA into DHS in the final hours of the FY 2012 budget session. A decision was made to send a letter to the leadership of the General Assembly.
Rick distributed copies the commission’s recent article in the Senior Digest to those who didn’t have one and discussed the topic of the upcoming December article; which will be related to this article and tied to the letter to the General Assembly letter.
5. Old Business
Membership: Any membership recruitment efforts with the DEA/Governor’s Office will be held until further notice; until we can discuss it with Director Taylor.
6. New Business
A discussion of the RI Assisted Living Program cuts was led by Sister Marietta and a decision was made to invite representatives from “Leading Age” to our January meeting to discuss assisted living issues; as well as nursing home issues.
