DEA AND RIPTA ANNOUNCE NEW INCOME VERIFICATION PROCESS

As of November 1, 2009:

The Department of Elderly Affairs will no longer do income verification for the RIPTA "No Fare" bus pass.

Corinne Calise Russo, Director of the state Department of Elderly Affairs (DEA) and Alfred J. Moscola, General Manager for RIPTA, have announced a new income verification process to qualify for a “no fare” RIPTA bus pass.

Effective on November 1, 2009 income verification for the bus pass will be performed at RIPTA’s Photo ID office located on 1 Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence. Income verifications will be done from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

This new process will eliminate the need for seniors and adults with disabilities to travel to DEA offices in Cranston for income verification. RIPTA’s Photo ID office will accept the following documents for proof of income:

  • Medical Assistance card

  • Rhode Island Pharmaceutical card (group 8018 only)

  • Social Security annual award letter

  • Supplemental Security Disability Income award letter

  • Federal Income Tax

For additional information, call DEA at 462-3000 or

RIPTA at 784-9500, extension 604.
